The Blue Room

The Blue Room Lounge designed specifically for UIC’s men’s basketball team. The entirety of the space is enveloped in textiles to generate a relaxing, soft, and seamless atmosphere. The curtains serve to conceal imperfections in the walls, remnants of its former life as a laundry room. Both the drapes and the carpet were strategically chosen as noise absorbers, effectively dampening the sounds from the adjacent basketball court, where team players engage in intense games. Within the lounge, all textile surface work is in unison to soften and suppress the noise of the movement, enabling students to unwind, nap or simply watch a game in peace. The monochromatic blue color scheme was selected to create a darker atmosphere, evoking a sense of gentle mystery. Even when illuminated, the space exudes a cave- like ambiance. Both color and textiles were intentionally chosen to craft these subtle yet immersive experiences.
